A WORLD BILLFISH SERIES SANCTIONED TOURNAMENT
The WBS began back in 1992 with the idea that, while individual anglers might be very proficient in their home waters, the best of the best could compete well on just about any stage around the world. Most would agree that it takes a good mix of preparation and skill mixed with a pinch of luck to win a major billfish event in waters they fish regularly, but that the mark of a world-class angler is the ability to take that same set of skills on the road, competing and doing well using different tactics and targeting different species than those encountered on a regular basis. In order to offer that worldwide stage upon which to perform, the World Billfish Series was formed.
Top tournament anglers and divisional qualifiers now have the opportunity to attend a year-ending Grand Championships, fishing head to head in order to determine the WBS World Champion of Billfishing in a true qualifying, invitation-only event. The top angler in the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina Billfish Tournament will receive the "Golden Fleece", along with the invitation to this year's Grand Championship.

Fighting Chair Competition sponsored by Release Marine
Thursday & Friday, times TBA
The Fighting Chair Competition pits angler against angler and sheer desire against exhaustion! The game is played by two contestants sitting in Release Marine Fighting Chairs 40 feet apart. Each chair is equipped with Shimano Big Game Reels and custom made rods. The line is tied together in the middle. Each contestant's goal is to pull the flag in the middle to his rod tip before the other one can. The reels are loaded with custom made 600# wind on leaders with each reel set at 28 pounds of drag.

       MTU/W. W. Williams
In appreciation of anglers who demand the best of the best in engine performance, MTU has introduced the Legend Series, a season-long event open to anyone whose boat is powered by an MTU or Detroit Diesel engine. Entrants can earn points by participating in the tournaments in the Series. A grand prize will be awarded to the boat that accumulates the most points during the season. Barney Bentgen, Vice President of Marine Sales, MTU Detroit Diesel says “Our plan is to promote these tournaments as the premier billfishing events in North America. An elite few that define the sport…”.
